Statecraft Kickstarter FAQ

  1. How do I upgrade to a different pledge level?
  2. What are stretch goals?
    • Making games is expensive, but making more of them is less so. When more backers support our project, we reward all backers with extra stuff that we can now put into the game. Some of the stretch goals will be stuff that we want to give to backers for free to say thanks that regular retail copies won’t come with, but will be separately available after the campaign.
  3. What does EU/US/Canada friendly shipping mean?
    • When we say that shipping is EU friendly, we mean that we ship your game to you from within the EU, which avoids you needing to pay customs charges as we handle it for all games at once. This is much cheaper as we pay import and sales taxes on the production price, not the retail price, so you get a better value game with less hassle!
    • We’re also happy to offer US and Canadian friendly shipping, meaning better value and less hassle for customers there too. We’re working hard on getting more friendly zones right now, so hopefully you’ll have happy customs officials in your area too.
  4. Do I need to know lots about politics to play?
    • Not at all! Just like our first game, Molecular, we’ve got a game that works well without needing any specialist knowledge at all, while giving players a chance to explore the ideas through the game in a fun and accessible way. Statecraft is an insight into politics as well as fun for those uninterested in politics to the keenest of beans.
We’ve played the game with young teens who hadn’t the faintest idea who the prime minister was, and with political academics and it worked fantastically with both.
  5. What’s a Print & Play?
    • Statecraft Print & Play Edition (or P&P) is a collection of organised digital files which contain all of the card fronts and card backs, as well as reference cards, points trackers, rules and the Statecraft Logo for you to make a basic copy of Statecraft at home. The final manufactured version will use high quality materials but if you’re on a budget, this is a great option. Also handy when you lose a card! Bear in mind that the Full Art P&P will have full illustrations for all cards in the style shown on the page!
  6. What are the components made of?
    • All cards are printed onto 300gsm greycore card, the industry standard for game cards. Points trackers are printed onto 157gsm high quality glossy paper. Points markers are made from 8mm painted wooden cubes. If stretch goals get hit, all of these will be improved!
  7. How big are the components?
    • All cards are standard poker size, at approximately 63mmx88mm
    • The wooden cube points markers at 8mm
    • The points trackers are approximately 183mm x 130mm
    • The rules book is approximately 170 x 200mm
    • The box is approximately 229 x 203 x 51 mm
  8. Why will it take so long to ship my reward?
    • From our experience with Molecular and from backing dozens of tabletop Kickstarters, we feel it’s best to under promise and over deliver. Making games is a lengthy process, and we want to make sure we don’t rush it and compromise on quality. We’ll keep the whole Statecraft community informed of progress throughout the manufacturing and shipping process, so if we’re not on schedule or super early, you’ll know about it as soon as we do
  9. What age range is Statecraft appropriate for?
    • In short, 14+, or thereabouts.

Statecraft is a game about politics, and we want to encourage young minds to explore the interesting issues that come up on television and through the internet. We’re mainly aiming the game at young teenagers and older, although it would be appropriate for inquisitive younger minds too! Some of the topics might be advanced, but we firmly believe in engaging people of all ages with the systems around them that will affect their lives.
The more seasoned gamers have also really enjoyed Statecraft, so it’s something for a broad range of ‘supporters’.
  10. Will Statecraft be available in languages other than English?
    • This first print run will be in English, but if there is sufficient interest we will produce Print and Play editions in a variety of languages, for more people to enjoy the game! Just fire off a comment on the page if you want the game to be translated into your language, or would like to offer to translate it yourself!
    • We’re also actively seeking partners in non-English speaking regions to license production of Statecraft in other languages.
  11. How does the game play differ when playing with 4 players as opposed to 2?
    • Statecraft is an adaptive, dynamic game, so works well with 2, 3 or 4 players, but the game does ‘feel’ different with different numbers of players. With 2 players Statecraft is more methodical, calculated and strategic, whereas with more players Statecraft takes on a more bombastic element of heightened group interaction.
  12. I like to sleeve my cards to protect them, what size should I use and will sleeved cards fit in the box?
  13. What is quantitative easing?
  14. Where can I find out more about this political compass thing?
    • Here’s a great website which explains where it all comes from, the ideas behind it, and a cool app to test out your own political ideology. http://www.politicalcompass.org
  15. I have a really cool game idea, can Inside the Box publish it?
    • The answer to that is yes! Get in contact with us at http://www.itbboardgames.com/contact/publishing with an overview of your idea, and we can work together to make your game a reality. We accept any and all submissions, no restrictions on theme, weight, mechanics or style.
    • We’re currently working with 8 independent game designers to publish their games throughout 2016/17.
  16. I’m a graphic designer/illustrator/artist/fiction writer/goblin artisan, does ITB have any work for me?
    • Yup. Give us a shout on contact@itbboardgames.com and we’ll work with you to see if we can accommodate you within one of our many projects.
    • We also produce art-directed games, meaning if you’re an artist with a great idea for a game theme, but aren’t sure about how the game itself would work, we’ll work with you to get your concept into massive game content spreadsheets!
